Astros On The Verge Of First World Series Title In Franchise History

The Houston Astros are now just one victory away from claiming the World Series after winning Game 5, which may have been the most ridiculous game in the history of the Fall Classic. After combining for 25 runs and seven home runs in Game 5, one would imagine that the Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers offenses will return to the mean as the series heads back to the City of Angels.

Shark Bites
  • The Astros are 9-0 SU in Justin Verlander’s 9 starts with the team.
  • The Dodgers are 5-1 SU at home this postseason.
  • George Springer is slashing .333/.440/.857 with 5 XBHs during the World Series.

One big reason to expect this series to return to a pitchers duel will be Justin Verlander. The righty has been lights out during the postseason with a 2.05 ERA in five outings, four of which were starts. Verlander had his worst outing – if you can call it that – of the postseason in Game 2 of the World Series, allowing three earned runs in 6.0 innings of work.

Though he is not getting much attention, Dodgers pitcher Rich Hill has been dealing during the playoffs. The southpaw has a 2.77 ERA in three postseason appearances this year, though he has only pitched a combined 13.0 innings in those outings. Hill has made all three of his starts during the playoffs at Dodger Stadium and seven of his past eight overall.
