What Team Will LeBron James Play for in the 2018-19 NBA season?

LeBron James #23 of the Cleveland Cavaliers celebrates after hitting the game winning shot to beat the Toronto Raptors 105-103 in Game Three of the Eastern Conference Semifinals during the 2018 NBA Playoffs at Quicken Loans Arena on May 5, 2018 in Cleveland, Ohio.

LeBron James is Cleveland’s favorite son, but the never-ending wheel of NBA drama has cast a shadow over Northeast Ohio and the rumor mill is churning in full force regarding the future of the superstar.

The Cavaliers are the +125 favorites to retain LeBron James in the offseason.

On August 16, Chris Sheridan reported a plugged-in source from the league stated: “This will be LeBron’s final season in Cleveland. He is 100 percent leaving. Relationship with owners is beyond repair.” Sheridan is one of the most well-respected voices in basketball media and has a ton of sway in the industry. If you recall back in 2014, he was the first reporter to announce James’ return to Cleveland.

According to The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, James is only willing to listen to free-agent pitches by the Cavaliers, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers in the offseason. It’s expected that James will opt out of his current deal and seek a full max contract that will be worth $35 million-plus per season.

Where will LeBron go?

With James’ future more uncertain than ever, BetOnline has released odds on where the King will end up for the 2018-19 season after he becomes an unrestricted free agent. The Cavs are the +125 favorites, with the 76ers (+375), Rockets (+375), Lakers (+375), Golden State Warriors (+1000), Los Angeles Clippers (+1200) and Miami Heat (+1600) the next likeliest candidates.

When James came back to Cleveland in 2014 after winning a couple of championships in Miami with his buddies Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, it was initially perceived as the final landing spot for the future Hall of Famer. But nothing is ever set in stone in the NBA, so another divorce between the small forward and the wine and gold could very much be in the cards.

As of May 10, the Cavaliers were set to do battle with the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference final. Stay up to date on all of the latest movement by following our NBA futures page.
