What Team Will LeBron James Play for in the 2018-19 NBA season?

LeBron James is Cleveland’s favorite son, but the never-ending wheel of NBA drama has cast a shadow over Northeast Ohio and the rumor mill is churning in full force regarding the future of the superstar.

On August 16, Chris Sheridan reported a plugged-in source from the league stated: “This will be LeBron’s final season in Cleveland. He is 100 percent leaving. Relationship with owners is beyond repair.” Sheridan is one of the most well-respected voices in basketball media and has a ton of sway in the industry. If you recall back in 2014, he was the first reporter to announce James’ return to Cleveland.

After struggling mightily to start the season, the Cavaliers have rebounded in a big way by absolutely torching the league in late November and December. As of December 18, Cleveland was sitting in second in the Eastern Conference at 23-8 SU. Despite the success, the possibility of James jumping ship for a second time in the offseason is very real.

With James’ future more uncertain than ever, BetOnline has released odds on where the King will end up for the 2018-19 season after he becomes an unrestricted free agent. The Cavs are the +200 favorites to retain his services, with the Houston Rockets (+250), Los Angeles Lakers (+400), Philadelphia 76ers (+1000), Minnesota Timberwolves (+1200), San Antonio Spurs (+1200), Golden State Warriors (+1600), New York Knicks (+2000), Oklahoma City Thunder (+2500) and Milwaukee Bucks (+2500) the next likeliest candidates.

When James came back to Cleveland in 2014 after winning a couple of championships in Miami with his buddies Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, it was initially perceived as the final landing spot for the future Hall of Famer. But nothing is ever set in stone in the NBA, so another divorce between the small forward and the wine and gold could very much be in the cards.

What do you think? Is LeBron going to be back with his hometown team, or will he take his talents elsewhere? Have your say in the comments.

When LeBron James came back to Cleveland in 2014 after an excursion to Miami, he made one promise: to bring a championship to Northeast Ohio. Thanks to a massive comeback over the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, James and the rest of the Cleveland Cavaliers delivered on that promise. And what a story it was.

Now that Bron Bron has brought Cleveland its first championship since 1964, there’s no possible way he could leave again, right? Right?! No one knows at this point. One online book is offering odds on where No. 23 will suit up next season.

At Bovada, King James’ odds on returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers are -300. If he does depart for greener pastures, the Miami Heat (+450), Los Angeles Lakers (+550), Los Angeles Clippers (+950) and New York Knicks (+1200) are currently on the board.

James, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent, will very likely come back to the wine and gold. The 31-year-old is coming off a two-year, $47-million deal and will be looking to sign a long-term contract this time around.

Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical compared a championship to a “golden ticket” that will allow LeBron to become an “adventurist” and do whatever he wants, wherever he wants in the Association.

“One more victory, one more magnificent night at Oracle Arena, and James will get to run off with his buddies again somewhere warm,” Woj said before Game 7. “Miami. Los Angeles. Wherever. There’s a restlessness about James that craves the next big move, the next power play. Franchises are on watch again, believe nothing’s forever in Northeast Ohio.”

Do you think James will break Cleveland’s heart again, or will he return to his hometown for the foreseeable future?
