What Team Will LeBron James Play for in the 2018-19 NBA season?

LeBron James Cleveland Cavaliers

LeBron James is Cleveland’s favorite son, but the never-ending wheel of NBA drama has cast a shadow over Northeast Ohio and the rumor mill is churning in full force regarding the future of the superstar.

The Cavaliers and Rockets are +250 co-favorites to sign James in the summer.

On August 16, Chris Sheridan reported a plugged-in source from the league stated: “This will be LeBron’s final season in Cleveland. He is 100 percent leaving. Relationship with owners is beyond repair.” Sheridan is one of the most well-respected voices in basketball media and has a ton of sway in the industry. If you recall back in 2014, he was the first reporter to announce James’ return to Cleveland.

According to The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, James is only willing to listen to free-agent pitches by the Cavaliers, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers in the offseason. It’s expected that James will opt out of his current deal and seek a full max contract that will be worth $35 million-plus per season.

Where will LeBron go? It’s a toss-up for oddsmakers

With James’ future more uncertain than ever, BetOnline has released odds on where the King will end up for the 2018-19 season after he becomes an unrestricted free agent. The Cavs and Rockets are the +250 co-favorites to retain his services, with the Lakers (+400), 76ers (+500), Golden State Warriors (+1000), Detroit Pistons (+1200), Milwaukee Bucks (+1200), New York Knicks (+1600), San Antonio Spurs (+2000) and Minnesota Timberwolves (+2500) the next likeliest candidates.

When James came back to Cleveland in 2014 after winning a couple of championships in Miami with his buddies Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, it was initially perceived as the final landing spot for the future Hall of Famer. But nothing is ever set in stone in the NBA, so another divorce between the small forward and the wine and gold could very much be in the cards.

As of March 9, the Cavs were +650 to win the NBA title in 2018 and +110 to garner the Eastern Conference banner. Stay up to date on all of the latest movement by following our NBA futures page.
