Best NBA Betting Sites

As one of the more difficult sports to bet on due to its high scoring nature and rapid score fluctuation, it may surprise you that NBA betting is the second largest sport in the sports betting industry. Since online sports betting has been introduced, NBA betting has exploded and is now second in betting popularity to the NFL. With 82 regular season games per team, there are far more opportunities to bet on the NBA than on football. Though difficult, NBA betting is exhilarating and intense for bettors.

Betting on the NBA

There are a few different options for NBA betting we will discuss below: moneylines, point spreads, and totals. There are also several types offered such as parlays, teasers, live betting, prop bets, and futures. Having basic knowledge of basketball and sports betting is a great start if you’re a beginner to NBA betting. Though you don’t necessarily have to use each of the wager types listed below, it is useful to understand all of the different options and methods.

NBA Betting Options

When it comes to NBA betting, there are three betting options to consider:

While not overly popular in NBA betting, Moneyline bets are fairly simple – bettors select which team they believe will win the game. Predicting an upset and betting with the underdogs is primarily the only way a Moneyline bet pays off.

For example, if the Moneyline wager has the Heat at +150 and the Celtics at -120, the Celtics are favoured to win and bettors will need to wager $120 to win $100. The Heat is considered the underdog in this case and a $100 wager will result in $150 in winnings.

Point Spread

Much like the NFL, a large percentage of those who participate in NBA betting will use point spreads. Point spreads give the underdog of the matchup an advantage that can range from three to ten points before the game even begins.

For example, if a game has a spread of 3.5 for the Spurs and -3.5 for the Lakers, the Lakers are favorited for the matchup and the Spurs are a 3.0 point underdog. Essentially, the Spurs are awarded 3.0 points before the game even starts. For those betting on the Lakers, they will have to win by 3 or more points, and for Spurs bettors to win, their team will have to win the game or lose by less than three points.

Totals (Over/Under)

Second to point spread betting, betting the totals is another popular option for NBA betting. Essentially, the oddsmaker will select a total number based on how they think the game will pan out. When betting NBA totals, the overall totals can vary from 185 to 220 on average, and vary widely each game. To bet on NBA totals, you have to choose if you think the total number of points in the game will be over or under the oddsmaker’s selected number.

Types of NBA Bets Offered

If you are looking for a bigger payout or to add entertainment value to your wagers, check out these types of NBA bets:

Though risky, parlay bets are rather popular in NBA betting. To place a parlay wager, bettors must select a minimum of two totals, moneyline, or point spread bets and combine them into one singular bet. What marks a parlay bet as risky is that all selections must win in order for the bettor to receive a payout.

Teasers in regards to NBA betting are fairly similar to parlay bets in that you must have all wagers correct in order to receive a payout. Teasers allow the bettor to adjust the point spread or totals line to minimize their risk. NBA teasers are ordinarily between four to five points but depending on the sportsbook, they could even go as high as 16 points.

Live Betting

Live NBA betting isn’t predominately popular in the US market, but is growing exponentially as sportsbooks are stepping up their game with their live betting product and sites. Bettors are able to place wagers as the action unfolds on the court from their computer, tablet or smartphone.

NBA prop bets allow bettors to place wagers on outcomes that are not directly associated with the outcome of the game. Prop bets are popular due to their creative nature, and can be quite profitable at times. Some great examples of an NBA prop bet would be a team’s total number of rebounds or a specific player’s number of points.

Futures are bets on an outcome that will happen at a later date. An great and common example in regards NBA betting would include predicting which team would win the NBA Title or Conference Championships.
