Odds to Win Serie A: Wins for Juventus, Napoli leave two favorites out in front

cristiano ronaldo first goal Juventus Serie A soccer futures odds football

Well, he is finally off the mark. Arguably the biggest news in Italy’s Serie A this past weekend was the fact that Portuguese ace Cristiano Ronaldo finally got on the scoresheet for his new club, bagging a brace in a narrow 2-1 win over Sassuolo.

The result means that Juventus maintains its 100 per cent record, and their four wins so far have brought nine goals at a rate of nearly 2.5 goals per game. Meanwhile, Napoli also got back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Fiorentina, thanks to a late strike from Lorenzo Insigne.

RONALDO BREAKS JUVENTUS DUCK

Cristiano Ronaldo got his first goals for his new club as the Old Lady saw their way past Sassuolo 2-1. Having failed to find the back of the net in his first three outings, Ronaldo bagged a brace on this occasion as Juventus maintained its perfect start to its latest title defence.

The visitors pulled one back and Juventus had Douglas Costa sent off in injury time, but the champions held on to secure the points. The result means that the champions remain three points clear at the top of the table and have already set the bar high in the opening weeks of the campaign.

A fourth straight victory has seen the odds on Juventus retaining its crown drop slightly, from -300 to -350. Meanwhile, Ronaldo getting his goal tally up and running for the season means he is still very much the favorite to win the Golden Boot and is priced at -175 to do so.

Next up for Juventus in the league is an away trip to minnows Frosinone, a match the champions will be expected to win. Their procession toward another title certainly shows no sign of slowing just yet.

NAPOLI BACK ON TRACK WITH WIN

Veteran boss Carlo Ancelotti got his Napoli players back on track with a 1-0 win over Fiorentina. It took until the 79th minute for Napoli to break down their stubborn opponents, but a strike from Lorenzo Insigne was enough to secure three points and a third win in four outings for Ancelotti.

The result hoisted Napoli up to second in the table with nine points, two ahead of Sassuolo in third but, crucially, three behind Juventus at the top of the league. Those dropped points last time out against Sampdoria have allowed Juventus to already put some daylight between themselves and the chasing pack.

Nevertheless, this weekend’s win has seen Napoli’s price to get their hands on the domestic crown drop dramatically from +700 to +500. Juventus very much remains in front, but if Napoli continues to apply pressure, then the Old Lady could slip up at some point along the winding road to domestic triumph.

Napoli is the favorite to finish as “best of the rest,” at +137 to finish top of the table excluding Juventus. Having once again qualified for the UEFA Champions League, the side is at just -450 to finish in the top four in Serie A come the end of this season.

POTENTIAL CHALLENGERS FALL AWAY EARLY

And finally, not one of AS Roma, Inter Milan and AC Milan could muster a win between them as their respective title challenges look to have stumbled far too early. The biggest shock came at the San Siro as Inter – widely tipped to challenge for the title after heavy investment over the summer transfer window – lost 1-0 to newly promoted Parma.

The shock result saw Inter’s price to land the league crown more than double, from +1200 to +2500. The club is, however, at just -125 to finish the season in the top four.

There were also disappointing draws for Milan and Roma, with the former coming away from Cagliari with a 1-1 stalemate. The club from the capital, however, endured a desperately poor afternoon as they were held 2-2 at home by bottom club Chievo.

AS Roma let a two-goal lead slip in the second half and has now not won since the opening day of the season, collecting just two points from its last three league outings. Both Milan and Roma are at +2500 to win the Serie A crown – up from +1600 from the third round.

It was by no means pretty, but defending Italian league champion Juventus managed to hold onto their 100 per cent record this season following a nervy 2-1 away win against newly promoted Parma this past weekend. Goals from veteran Mario Mandzukic and Blaise Matuidi came on either side of Gervinho’s striker for the home side, while Cristiano Ronaldo’s elusive first goal in Italian football continues to elude him.

And the champions managed to put daylight between themselves and their main title rivals for the first time this season. Napoli were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Sampdoria, while a last-minute strike also saw Roma go down 2-1 at Milan. There was, however, a first win of the campaign for Luciano Spalletti’s Inter.

Ronaldo search for first goal goes on

Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to get off the mark for new club Juventus, but that did not stop them from making it three wins from three this past weekend away to Parma. Mario Mandzukic opened the scoring for the Old Lady after only two minutes, before Gervinho replied for the hosts just after the half-hour mark.

However, a goal just before the hour from Matuidi was enough to seal the points, and in truth Juventus could have had more with Brazilian attacker Douglas Costa going close to putting the icing on the cake. Their performances have been more efficient than spectacular so far, but it has not stopped them from being priced as the overwhelming favorites to successfully maintain their domestic crown.

The champions are now at just -300 to win the league title once again, and the fact they are managing to get the job done without Ronaldo firing should send a stark message to their rivals. Next up for the Old Lady is a home game with Sassuolo on September 15.

The Portuguese veteran may not have found the back of the net yet, but he remains the clear favorite to finish the season as top scorer in Italy’s Serie A. The 33-year-old is at the same price as before (-138) to win the Golden Boot come May.

There was relief for Luciano Spalletti and his Inter Milan side this past weekend as they finally got their own campaign up and running. Inter can now go into the international break with a much-needed confidence boost, while new signing Radja Nainggolan was on the scoresheet on his debut.

After a slow start to the season which saw the Nerazzurri pick up just one point from their opening two games, Inter now sits seventh with four points on the board as they look to build up some momentum. After the break, Inter hosts Parma in a match they will be confident of taking the points in as Spalletti looks upwards to launching a title challenge on old rivals Juventus.

As a result of this weekend’s victory, Inter’s price to win the title has dropped slightly from +1440 to +1200. And Argentine forward Mauro Icardi is only behind Ronaldo in the betting to win the Golden Boot – he is at +600 to get his hands on the prize.

Napoli drops points in race for the title

There was a first setback for Carlo Ancelotti in the Napoli hot seat after his side was comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Sampdoria this past Sunday evening. Having beaten both Lazio and Milan, Napoli was undone in the first half by a brace from French forward Gregoire Defrel before a wonder striker from Fabio Quagliarella sealed the points 15 minutes from time.

The defeat means Napoli has dropped down to sixth, three points behind league leaders Juventus. Sassuolo now surprisingly sits in second place, having collected seven points from the opening three games.

And having been Juventus’ closest challengers last season, Napoli needs to stay on the coattails of the champions. Their price to get their hands on a first league crown in close to three decades has risen to +700 following defeat.

Roma, meanwhile, has also seen its price rise following a 2-1 defeat to Milan on Saturday night. The club from the capital sits in ninth place with four points and is at +1600 to win the title for just the second time since the turn of the century.

Current Italian league champions Juventus put in a strong showing as they comfortably saw off Roman outfit Lazio 2-0 in the second week of the new season. Goals from Miralem Pjanic and veteran striker Mario Mandzukic were enough to seal the points as the Old Lady maintained their 100 percent start to their latest title defence.

Meanwhile, Napoli won a thrilling encounter with AC Milan 3-2 to stay on Juventus’ coattails. Carlo Ancelotti’s side rallied from two goals down to score three times in 27 minutes and snatch the points.

Ronaldo still looking for first goal

Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo made his home debut for Juventus this past weekend but his search for his first goal in black and white stripes continues.  A fine strike from Pjanic opened the scoring before Mandzukic put the icing on the cake after the break.

However, Juventus has done all that has been asked from them in their opening two games, and have six points in the bank as well as having scored five goals already. Their class was too much for a Lazio side which finished fifth last term but has now lost its first two games of the new campaign – although those defeats have admittedly come at the hands of Napoli and Juventus.

The champions remain the favorites to retain their crown after their perfect start to the season. Juventus is at -250 to be crowned Italian league champion once again come May.

Despite failing to find the back of the net in his first two games, Ronaldo is still the outright favorite to finish the season as top scorer in Italy. You can back the Portuguese to get his hands on the Golden Boot prize at just -138, with Inter’s Mauro Icardi at +600 to pip him to the post.

Meanwhile, one of the sides that was thought to be a main challenger looks to have stumbled prematurely in the title race. Inter Milan dropped points yet again, drawing 2-2 with Torino despite opening up a two-goal lead after only 32 minutes.

After losing 1-0 to Sassuolo last week, Inter, which spent heavily over the summer and tied coach Luciano Spalletti down to a new contract until 2021, has picked up just one point so far this season and is still looking for its first win. After Torino pulled level, there were still over 20 minutes to play, but a distinct lack of fire from the Inter attack saw them create and threaten little in the closing stages.

As a result, Inter’s price to get their hands on the Serie A crown has already risen steeply before the season is a month old. Having been at +800 to win the title, the price for the Nerazzurri now stands at +1400.

Napoli remains level with Juventus

One side that has not disappointed over the first two rounds of the new season is Napoli. Veteran boss Carlo Ancelotti took charge of his first home game at the helm of his new club and it was a game that he will not forget in a hurry.

Ancelotti masterminded victory over his former club AC Milan – where he won the UEFA Champions League twice – coming back from two goals down to win 3-2. Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski scored twice as Napoli battled back from a desperate position to seal a historic and hard-fought three points.

And having been Juventus’ closest challengers last season, it looks like Napoli is the team best equipped to push all the way this time around as well. After a second successive win, Napoli’s price to win the league has fallen slightly (from +600) and now stands as +550 as they look to win their first league crown in close to three decades.

Just like Juventus, Napoli has six points and five goals scored. It should be a close and intriguing battle between the two over the coming months.

Roma, meanwhile, has seen its price rise without even playing their second game yet. The side hosts Atalanta on Monday night and has gone from +700 to +1000 to win only their second Serie A title since the turn of the century.

Defending Italian champions Juventus were forced to sweat late in a 3-2 win over Chievo. Meanwhile, there were also wins on the road for expected title challengers Napoli and Lazio, but Inter Milan, who have invested heavily in their squad over the summer, fell 1-0 to Sassuolo on the opening day.

Ronaldo fails to find the net

There was no goal for Cristiano Ronaldo on his Juventus debut, and the side needed a dramatic 93rd-minute winner to find a way past Chievo this past Saturday. The result showed there is still room for improvement from the champions over the autumn months, but their resilience in the face of adversity remains as strong as ever.

Juventus remain the favorites to retain their domestic crown, but their rivals will be buoyed by the fact that there are most certainly chinks in that Turin armor. The Old Lady have seen their price drop slightly to -225 to be crowned Serie A champions come the end of the season.

And despite drawing a blank in his first game, Ronaldo remains the odds-on favorite to finish the season as top scorer. The Portuguese veteran is at -150 to win the domestic Golden Boot.

Meanwhile, a new-look Inter side failed to jell as they lost 1-0 away to Sassuolo. Their expensively assembled squad was forced to face facts – time and patience may well be key to getting the best out of the pieces at coach Luciano Spalletti’s disposal.

A penalty in the 27th minute was enough to put Inter down and the early evidence suggests that it may still be too soon to be talking of the title. Inter have now lost seven times against Sassuolo since 2015 and have now lost on the opening weekend of the Serie A season in two of the last three campaigns.

But Inter remain the second favorites for the Serie A crown at a price of +600. In addition, Spalletti’s side is at -250 to finish in the top four and, after that performance, that may well be the limit of their abilities this season.

Much will depend on the exploits of Argentine forward Mauro Icardi. Only Ronaldo is at shorter odds to finish the season as top scorer, with Icardi at +600 to get his hands on the Golden Boot.

Ancelotti makes winning start at Napoli

Veteran boss Carlo Ancelotti got off to a winning start as Napoli boss with a 2-1 win away to Lazio in Rome. The side survived an early scare and were forced to come from behind to snatch the points after Ciro Immobile gave the home side the lead.

Napoli ran Juventus close last season, finishing just four points off the top of the table, and are at +700 to win their first Serie A crown in close to three decades. Ancelotti looks to have steadied the ship admirably after the key losses of Maurizio Sarri and midfield creator Jorginho, and the team got stronger the longer the game went on.

On paper at least, there is more than enough quality in the Napoli squad to launch another title challenge, and with Ancelotti at the helm of the ship, quite frankly anything is possible for this group of players. If the players have adapted quickly to his methods, then Napoli could well be a force to be reckoned with over the course of the season.

The same could also be said of AS Roma, who got their season off on the right foot with a 1-0 win away to Torino. It took them until the 89th minute to seal the victory – and once it came it was thanks to Edin Dzeko once again.

It is hard to stress just how important the Bosnian is to this Roma side. His goals could go a long way to deciding the fortunes of the club this season, and the striker is at +1000 to finish the Serie A season as top scorer.

The club from the capital look odds-on for a top-four finish – they are at -250 to achieve one – but they are not far behind the likes of Inter and Napoli when it comes to an outright title win. You can back Roma at +800 to get their hands on the league title for just the second time this century – that’s a slight increase from preseason.

There is now under a week until the new Serie A campaign in Italy kicks off, and Juventus very much remains the team to beat on the domestic front. The Turin-based outfit has now won the league crown for seven seasons in a row and their success has shown little sign of abating as they continue to sweep all before them.

Admittedly, however, last season was far closer than many had previously envisaged. Juventus finished just four points ahead of closest rivals Napoli, but while the champions have strengthened yet again, their closest challengers have lost key pieces during the transfer window.

Can Juventus be caught?

That is the main question as we head into the new season, and there is no escaping the fact that the Old Lady is once again the clear favorite to secure the Serie A title. You can back them at just -250 to make it eight wins in a row, and the addition of Ronaldo to their ranks will give them a huge confidence boost.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the veteran forward is also the favorite to finish the campaign as the top goalscorer in Italy. You can back the Portuguese at -150 to finish as Italy’s Golden Boot winner, with teammate and Argentine international Paulo Dybala at +3300 to do the same.

However, the golden rule remains pertinent here: the more specific your bets, the higher the potential rewards, and you may also bet on how many goals you think Ronaldo will net. OVER 29.5 comes in at +100, with UNDER 29.5 at the shorter price of -138.

Inter back among the big boys

One club who may run them close this season is former European champion Inter Milan. Inter could only manage a fourth-place finish last season, a massive 23 points off Juventus, but an aggressive transfer window has bolstered the squad of coach Luciano Spalletti considerably.

Of course, the club can also count on striker Mauro Icardi, one of the hottest properties in world football right now. In addition, the club has added Radja Nainggolan, Keita Baldéa and Lautaro Martinez as they look to win their first domestic crown in close to a decade.

Inter are at +650 to get their hands on the Serie A crown in May, but you can also back them at the much shorter price of -250 to finish in the top four. Given the options now at Spalletti’s disposal, that should be the absolute minimum target for the campaign.

Indeed, such is Juventus’ dominance in Italy that you can also bet on a league table that does not include the current champions, and it is Inter who are favorites to finish up as “best of the rest” at +200. And Icardi’s goals will be crucial to any title hopes Inter has – the Argentine international is at +600 to finish as Serie A’s top goalscorer, with only Ronaldo priced shorter.

Ancelotti looking to work magic at Napoli

And finally, Napoli may have lost their excellent yet eccentric coach Maurizio Sarri, but they would appear to be in safe hands for the new season.  Veteran boss Carlo Ancelotti, formerly in charge at the likes of AC Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, has taken over as the club looks to mount another title challenge.

This season, however, has seen Napoli fall slightly down the pecking order. The previous campaign saw them finish just four points off Juventus, having amassed 91 points and won 28 of their 38 league games.

This season they are at +700 to win the league title outright, and how much the loss of key playmaker Jorginho will hurt the creative impetus of the team remains to be seen. Ancelotti starts his new job with a tough assignment away to Rome side Lazio, but it is visitors Napoli, at +140, who come in as the slight favorites to make a winning start to the season.

While Juventus is still the favorite to top Italy’s Serie A in 2018-19, Inter Milan has made a big move up the oddsboard ahead of the August 18 start date to the campaign.

Juve, who obviously landed Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, is the clear-cut favorite to win the league at online shop Bovada at -225, but Inter has moved from +1100 when I first posted this article to now +700, in what has been the most significant futures move with the season starting in little over one week.

The Nerazzurri, one of Italy’s proudest clubs, haven’t won a scudetto since the 2009-10 season but had a great 2017-18 campaign which saw them finish fourth and qualify for Champions League via a dramatic 3-2 victory over Lazio on the final day.

All that said, what’s really impressive about Inter heading into the new season is the signings that the club has made and the players that it has been able to retain. Incomings include Stefan de Vrij, Kwadwo Asamoah, Sime Vrsaljko, Radja Nainggolan, Matteo Politano and Lautaro Martinez. Those big-name players join the likes of Mauro Icardi, Ivan Perisic, Milan Skriniar, Samir Handanovic, Matias Vecino and electric youngster Yann Karamoh to form a very, very strong Inter side.

Manager Luciano Spalletti, now in his second season with Inter, brought a sort of defensive stability to the side that it has lacked in recent seasons. Inter, traditionally known as a staunch defensive outfit, conceded just 30 goals last season. The season before, under a revolving door of managers including Frank de Boer, Stefano Vecchi and Stefano Pioli, it conceded 49 goals.

Serie A titles belong to Juventus. The Old Lady has won seven straight entering the season and adding CR7 to an offensive trio which will potentially feature Douglas Costa and Paulo Dybala flanking him is a scary thought for the rest of the league.

With the great Cristiano Ronaldo heading to Italy to ply his trade with Juventus, the defending Serie A champions have moved from -160 prior to the rumors to now -250 with the transfer official.

Juve has won the last seven Serie A titles and with Ronaldo heading to The Old Lady, eight is beginning to look more and more likely and online shop Bovada has them firmly on top.

Ronaldo is coming off three straight Champions League titles with Real Madrid and won his second La Liga crown with the club in 2016-17. While 33 years of age, he was second in La Liga in scoring with 26 goals and was the top scorer in Champions League with 15.

Juve has already been active in the summer transfer market, adding João Cancelo and Mattia Perin to bolster a squad that has lost club legend Gianluigi Buffon as well as Stephan Lichtsteiner and Kwadwo Asamoah.

Serie A had the most exciting title race of the “big five” European leagues last season. Juve won by four points over Napoli while Manchester City won the Premier League by 19 points over Manchester United, Barcelona won La Liga by 14 points over Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga by 21 points over Schalke and PSG won Ligue 1 by 13 points over Monaco.

Can anyone compete with Juventus this season and prevent them from winning another scudetto?

The Return of Carlo Ancelotti

Well, the second team on the futures board, Napoli (+550), has made some of the most drastic changes in the offseason. The biggest, of course, is replacing Maurizio Sarri with Carlo Ancelotti on the touchline.

The great Italian manager returns to Serie A for the first time since leaving AC Milan at the end of the 2008-09 season. Since moving abroad, Ancelotti has won the Premier League with Chelsea (2009-10), Ligue 1 with PSG (2012-13) and Bundesliga with Bayern Munich (2016-17). His success is undeniable and he probably has the best chance to do what Sarri couldn’t with a very talented Napoli club.

Napoli is on the verge of losing midfield staple Jorginho but has added the very talented Fabián Ruiz from Real Betis as well as winger Simone Verdi, who is coming off a great season with Bologna, and young goalkeeper Alex Meret from Udinese.

If you believe in Ancelotti and this very talented Napoli side, they are being offered at a pretty decent price of +550.

Inter Milan On The Rise Up the Table

Inter Milan’s dramatic victory over Lazio on the final matchday of the season secured a return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2011-12 season as they locked up fourth place in Serie A. It was a fantastic debut season in Milan for manager Luciano Spalletti and the club hopes for a higher place in the table in the upcoming season and sits at +1100 to win the scudetto.

The additions to the squad have been very interesting with ex-Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan entering the fold as well as highly touted Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez, who comes over from Racing.

The biggest coup of all might be centerback Stefan de Vrij, who joins on a free transfer from Lazio. The Dutch defender was immense for Lazio last year and adding him to a list of centerbacks that already includes Miranda and Milan Skriniar is a scary thought. Inter conceded just 30 goals last campaign, good enough for fourth behind Juve (24), Roma (28) and Napoli (29), so we shouldn’t be surprised to see that number lower at season’s end.
